"In lieu of adopting the NBA's clock management system of being set directly to the whistle, the physical gestures can help with determining exact stoppage times."

Wait a minute...there is an already proven system that does this? Why hasn't the NHL adopted this - it seems to have zero downsides.

Paul, your insight and well thought out explanation explains your class and knowledge. May I add my wishes for the future.
1. Back to 1 on ice official and give more power to linesman, players too big and rinks too small and I think on some calls each ref looks at the other to see who will raise their arm, its a human mental reaction.
2. A ref must explain an overturned call and or the P A announcer. Hockey exists because of a willing fan base who pay massive amounts of money to attend these contests, the lack of information given is pre-school type behavior.
3. People do not come to these games to watch the 4 in stripes, hard for their ego but the job is a choice not a mandate. Call rule violations from offside to hooking, player safety being the most important.
4.The Toronto war room is just awful a failed experiment. Each arena could have their own war room with a roving schedule of never the same off ice officials. It would appear to me you would get a better feel for the game if you were in the building and not from a tv feed.
Thank you for what you do Paul you keep fans in the game always remember that.

Hello Paul.
Torts understands and accepts that mistakes are made. I believe what brought him into such a rage was that the officials would not go to review to see what happened and how much time was lost.
The clock initially stopped - but then started up again - when the 0.9 of a second was lost.

There is also an uproar with Colin Campbell's statement - which demonstrates the NHL office's ignorance with these types of situations. All the while there was no mention of investigating how it happened, and actions that it could not happen again.
Bettman and Campbell just want to sweep it under the rug.

Torts' $20,000 fine is ludicrous for making an accurate statement - and the $25,000 gag order is even more hilarious. The NHL is more concerned with a criticism about their officials than it is about head hits !! At least one has to think that based on the fines that are assessed, and non-calls that are (not) made.

When do the owners realize this is becoming a laughing stock and clean house from the top down - including the DoPS ? Or is the reality that they are complicit, don't care as long as the $$$ keep rolling in ??

What sent Torts into his rant was losing his starting goalie who was playing at all-star level in the middle of a long points streak bringing the Jackets back to within striking distance of a playoff spot. All this despite having 8 other players on the IR. If The goal is allowed Korpisalo doesn't get injured. That's the real story.
